David Brooks
The Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio Movement
The New York Times
November 1, 2015

In this article Brooks discusses the issues of the current "celebrity" candidates and states that he hopes their current position in the race will fizzle out. He goes on to explain why he feels that each candidate is under qualified for the job of running our country. In his final points Brooks addresses Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio. He states that Rubio is a child of this century and recognizes the true issue with the government and Rubio can address both sides of an opinion and claim why his is right. Brooks focuses on appealing to logos for this article; he addresses an issue that he finds and following his statement he shows support for why he thinks that it is an issue. Brooks has been discussing politics a lot lately and i'm curious to know why the sudden interest?

  1. Dear Mr. Brooks,
Where I do see your points on the other candidates it would be nice of you to elaborate more on why Rubio and Ryan are so "wonky". I'm also wondering why you think that voters don't need to know what the candidates' agendas are… I think that knowing the agendas is the only thing that keeps voters voting!

  2. It is interesting that you point out that Brooks has recently started focusing on politics. For me personally, when I start watching the news or having conversations about different candidates, I become entrenched in the subject. Seeing as it is such an all consuming topic when you become drawn in, his personal life may play a larger role in his columns than one might initially think. Which I, for one, find very interesting.

  3. Do you think that the sudden interest has come from the relevance with the republican race? They all are trying to gain any grounding anyway possible and this might be why it seems so interesting.
